The Original Mountain Model for EBPQI

The Mountain Model Collective

A collective of scholars and practitioners advancing evidence-based practice and quality improvement through the Mountain Model for EBPQI — published in the American Journal of Nursing.

Transforming Practice Change in Health and HealthCare

Recognizing the limitations of evidence-based practice (EBP) and quality improvement as siloed approaches to address issues in healthcare. The Mountain Model fully integrates research and other evidence with quality improvement methodology as an integrative, umbrella framework guiding nurses through the full EBPQI cycle — from identifying a clinical or systems issue, through evidence synthesis, to implementation, evaluation, and dissemination. The model uniquely positions nurses at all levels of preparation to lead or contribute to sustainable practice change and is flexible enough to support program evaluation and health policy analysis initiatives.

About Us

Members of the Collective

The Mountain Model Collective is a group of nationally recognized nurse leaders, authors and editors, united by a shared commitment to advancing healthcare through evidence-based practice quality improvement. They are best known for developing two transformative tools designed to enhance nursing inquiry and impact: the PPCO evidence searching question and the Mountain Model for Evidence-Based Practice and Quality Improvement (EBPQI).

We offer expert consulting services for clinicians, faculty, and organizations seeking to engage in sustainable practice improvement initiatives and build their capacity for evidence-based practice quality improvement, program evaluation and policy analysis.

As dynamic speakers and engaging educators, our members present nationally on topics such as the Mountain Model for EBPQI, program evaluation, policy initiatives, and scholarly writing. We create thoughtful, productive spaces where others can grow and thrive as leaders who change practice, education, and scholarship.

The Mountain Model workshop was an outstanding faculty development experience! Dr. Jayne Dunlap delivered a clear, engaging session that equipped our faculty with practical strategies to effectively guide EBP-QI projects, policy analyses, and program evaluations. We highly recommend this workshop to institutions looking to strengthen faculty capacity, better support DNP students, and enhance the quality and impact of their scholarly work.

All of the faculty who attended the workshop have commented that it has been the best and most useful/helpful workshop offered at the school to date. The activities were engaging and productive. Faculty report feeling more confident in their ability to guide students in EBPQI and use appropriate evaluation methods. We are adopting the Mountain Model for EBPQI, EBPPE, and EBPPA as the framework for all of our projects.
